Regular participation in aerobic exercise stimulates a number of mechanisms which promote brain plasticity and improve memory and learning. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a form of non-invasive brain stimulation with the capacity to strengthen the connectivity of brain networks. We are investigating whether combining exercise and TMS may result in additive effects on brain plasticity and cognitive function. This approach may lead to the development of novel treatments for a range of mental illnesses.
